Joe was born in New York City on New Years Day in 1938. He attended local schools in Eastchester, NY, and Madison, CT. He received a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester MA. After working in related fields for a few years, he began training for a career change. He was hired as a flight crewmember by Trans World Airlines, where he served on Boeing 707 and 747 and Lockheed 1011 aircraft, and flew to hundreds of cities in North America, Europe, and Asia. Joe retired to the Venice area in 1986. He has three adult children and four grandsons.
Joe is a lifetime member of The Airline Pilots Association and American Mensa (the high I.Q. society). For about 20 years, he created original crossword puzzles for the Manasota Mensa Monthly Magazine and has received national recognition for these puzzles.
In 2004, he completed a 7-year project of building a 2300 square-foot Key West style stilt home in Nokomis. He did 95% of all the work by himself, and used a great deal of recycled building materials. Joe prides himself in meeting the definition of a “real engineer: someone who can do for fifty cents what any damned fool can do for a dollar.”
Along similar lines, Joe will be running a very basic, low budget, grass-roots campaign. Joe’s annual adjusted gross income for the past three years has been approximately what Vern Buchanan receives as a Congressional salary for one month! Accordingly, Joe is trying to get the necessary petitions to run for this office instead of paying the alternative, high dollar fee. There is a link on this site to access the petition form, which can be printed, filled out and mailed in to his campaign. Instructions are on that page. Signing this petition is not a vote for Joe; it is only for the purpose of allowing him the opportunity to be on the ballot for the 2014 election. He asks that you give him that chance.
Joe has been a political activist for most of his adult life. He has been active in the campaigns of many candidates, including his favorite political person of the 20th century, Senator Lowell Weicker of Connecticut.
Joe is an “idea man” and a “problem solver”. He has been writing articles for decades about ways to improve our government. His many years of experience in preparing income tax returns for himself and others have influenced his ideas about overhauling and simplifying the income tax system. Numerous attempts to share his ideas with elected officials have been ignored. He hopes that this candidacy will allow the District 16 voters to read these articles and decide whether Joe would be the right kind of Congressman to represent them. This site has those articles included. Just click on the link for each subject.
You will notice that none of Joe’s articles include anything of a religious nature. Joe’s philosophy is that the government has no place invading religions, and vice versa. Joe will make no empty promises to religious groups in exchange for their votes. He will vote against any bill that attempts to impose religious issues upon the operation of government.
